Amazing Grace Orphanage has welcomed a new Compound Supervisor, Robba Charles Rudu, seen above teaching a Bible study class. It is a huge answer to prayer, and he has provided some fantastic photos of the children that are being blessed by Amazing Grace and its partners.

Land Purchase Campaign Has Begun

Exactly one year ago, the children of Grace Community Church in Roswell, New Mexico attended VBS (Vacation Bible School) and raised over $800 to repair a building at Amazing Grace Children's Home. During that VBS they wrote letters and made necklaces for the children of AGCH.

This year the children of Grace Community Church received personal letters from the children at AGCH, heard the call for funds to purchase land for AGCH and they stepped up to the challenge. Over four days of VBS the children of Grace Community Church raised over $1100..........in quarters!!

Thursday night after the performance, the children were able to get their parents to raise another $400, which brought the grand total to $1500!!!

Thus the campaign to raise the necessary funds has begun. The children of Grace Community Church have set the bar and challenge the rest of the Lahash Community to step up and step out in faith as we proceed to our goal of $10,000 by December 2010.

It's Not Always Play Time

The children at Amazing Grace find time to play, but chores are always a priority, especially when it comes to their health and well being. Below children receive new mosquito nets to replace old damaged ones that hang over their beds. Since mosquitoes carry malaria, an infectious disease that can cause death, it is important that netting be replace often. Most netting now comes coated with a substance that kills mosquitoes that land on it. Old netting loses it's effect over time and large holes that are made in the netting allow mosquitoes to get to the children.

The children don't have the luxury of a washer and dryer, so they must wash their clothes by hand on a daily basis. Seen below are children washing clothes and bringing in water from a local well about 1/2 mile away. Water must be brought in several times a day not only for washing clothes, but also for drinking and cooking.

Emergency Funds Bring Relief To Amazing Grace

The call went out and you answered! We were able to raise the monies needed for Amazing Grace to get back on track again. Here is what was needed:

Amazing Grace food: $400 (800,000 UGSH)

Salaries: $770 (1,540,000 UGSH)

Uniforms: $330 (660,000 UGSH)

The total raised was roughly $1860 (I need to confirm these figures)! This total is more than what was needed.

Thanks to everyone's prayers and helping out financially. It doesn't stop here though, Amazing Grace still needs constant financial support and always prayer. Prayerfully consider becoming a financial support of Amazing Grace, because even the smallest donation makes a difference.

Amazing Grace In Need

To all, greetings. My name is Eric Chapman and I am an advocate for Lahash International and founder of Team Lahash of New Mexico.

I write to you as my heart is heavy for the children at Amazing Grace Childrens Home. We have received news that the food surplus at AGO is now on the verge of running out. Soon the children will be without food. Lahash has sent emergency funds, but this will not last long. We are asking you to prayerfully consider making a donation, or maybe even doing a fund raiser to raise enough money to not only put food back on the childrens plates, but to replenish their surplus.

The Bible tells us in James 1:27 "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

It was a jubilant time in Amazing Grace when they got the solar panels to power the home.It has been long over due but we thank God for the provision of the solar power through Lahash international, now the home enjoys electricity.

Since the inception of the home, the children have been using kerosene to light their lantern lamps.The kerosene cost kept going up and up and it was expensive to maintain them.
The older children were not getting humble time to do their studies.

They had to gather in one lamp so as to get time to study but now this has now changed since the inception of the solar power.
God has been so grateful to us this year seeing some developments in the home.This December,2009 Lahash international donated funds to see this solar project become a reality in Amazing Grace Home.

Three panels were purchased and two solar batteries this will help in the supply of power in the home and also used to power electronic devices in the home.

Edwin, Lahash coordinator in East Africa helped out in the purchase and installation of the solar panels in the home.

"it has been a dream come true for the children in the home since now the can enjoy electricity" said Edwin.
The solar panels is to help out in saving the high cost of fuel used to light- up the home using kerosene.
We want to thank each one of you for who helped out giving us the best christmass gift this year may God bless you this Chistmas season.

New Latrine completed

We want to thank our partners for this new latrine in Amazing Grace.We also thank God for the sponsors who really supported this great development which will be of great help to us.Over 2,500 bricks was used and 21 bags of cement used.

The children could not hide their excitement towards this new latrine since they did not have a good latrine facility at all.

This has been a great step forward in Amazing Grace and we look forward to get even better development in the near future with your help.
Our partner Lahash has done a great job towards this project. We would like to thank them for the good work that they have done towards this construction work.
At the moment the structure is not painted but, we are looking forward to even give it the best look!

Help to the children from visitors.

Amazing Grace is a home to 30 children purely Sudanese.We have the majority of the children in primary schools and few in Senior school.Education is part of the core value of the home to offer good education and learning experience to these children

The children are facing problems in their education especially in English .That is they do not know how to read,write and speak English very well.Therefore we welcome any help from any visitors or travellers and to offer any assistant to the children.This is highly welcomed by us to give that help to the children.

we are seeing good progress of the children in speaking English and also generally with their school performance.This has been very encouraging to us since ideas and knowledge is impacted to these children.

New Bore Hole sunk in our community

It is said that..."water is life and no life can exist without water!".
water has been one of our main issue affecting us in Amazing Grace.Nearly, main diseases that affects the children and the staffs and which they have been suffering from, comes as a result of related water borne diseases.

From diarrhoea,stomach upsets to typhoid this are some of common diseases that we face in the home and its due cause is related to water.

The main bore hole that the home relying has been lately has lately overcrowded due to the increase of the population in the area and it takes much time transport water to the Orphanage.
In the entire community area, the home consumes relatively large amount of water in a single day for cooking, washing and bathing.

We usually ferry about one thousand liters of water in a day to carter for the entire domestic use using bicycles and also carrying on the head.

The new bore hole has given us ray of hope getting piped water in the home soon.This has been a great news to the entire community who for the first time will enjoy piped water in their homes.
The Bore hole was sunk near the home about 500 meters away and this will save a lot since it will be close and convenient to connect water pipes to the home more easily when the pipes are laid on the ground.

Basically, the borehole will not be used for hand pump like this one below which we use, but it will have some tanks to pump and distribute drinking water in the entire area.This is what we are using to fetch water by pumping water in the borehole

The bore hole was sunk 288 feet's deep and the contractors said that this will supply a lot of water to the entire area.We thank God for this great news and the new development in our local area which will be of great impact to the entire community as a whole.

construction progress

We are very pleased on the progress that has been going on in the construction of the new latrine.We collected 3,000 bricks from the neighbour and we ferried them across the fence which is about 10 meters from the construction site.
The constructors are doing a great job in laying of the bricks and making the walls.and they are determined in doing a wonderful work!

At the moment, the construction has taken about 2,000 pieces of bricks and 12 bags of cement.The work is still going on.The construction of the new latrine is approximated to take about 3,000 pieces of bricks to complete it.

We are very pleased here in Amazing Grace for the kindness you have shown towards this developments in the home.

Renovated girls Bathroom

over the past years we were having problems with the bathrooms in the Orphanage.We made our bathrooms with thatched grass on the sides and some bamboo sticks.This was not to last for so long since,when heavy wind blows and destroy the grass and hence we had to do a lot of repair in about two or three moths time.This was the previous bathroom used for bathing by the girls.

We thank God for the provision he made to us .We were able to construct a more lasting bathroom for the girls.This new bathroom will last for a longtime compared to the grass thatched one since, we have used pieces of iron sheet on the side and timber.

We are looking forward to repair the boys bathroom in the near future although at the moment we do not have funds to realise the new bathroom.
The girls are now using this bathroom for bathing and they are enjoying this new facility. We are also looking in the near future to construct permanent bathroom structures in the Orphanage to be used by the childen.

HAPPY AND SMILING FACES

Being in Amazing Grace Orphanage is one of the most exiting thing one would not forget about the beautiful voices of the children.The children are very happy and enjoyable to be with at all time of your stay in Amazing Grace.Smiling faces and happy faces is what you will meet at any corner of the compound .
The children are very much talented in singing and praising God with various songs they have come to learn.
They are very optimistic of their songs and they have also produced some of their songs which people can listen to.

PLAYING FOOTBALL
There are many talents in Amazing Grace.The children both boys and girls love playing football and they like it very much.Apart from playing soccer there are very talented drum players and fine artist boys who draw very pleasing, eye captivating drawings and pictures

There are fine talents of children playing the local created drum which they use it during devotion and when singing songs.Morris Taban is one of the boys in the Orphanage who are very much talented in playing drum very well.

ARTISTIC DRAWINGS

In Amazing Grace we have some children who are very much talented in drawing.This drawings are very useful not only by them but it passes out important message to other people who view them.
From the tender age of thirteen years,Moi George has perfected his drawing skills which his colleagues are loving it so much since it passes out a good message to them.

It is a blessing to the different talents this children have and they need to be natured and well harnessed in order to be a benefit to them in the future.

Construction of the latrines starts

Congratulation to the lahash group for their quick response towards latrine work.We have started it and i believe it will not take more than two months .I hope before Jeff will leave for Nairobi for his Christmas,it will remain little to be completed.This block of latrine is going to last for more than ten years, because it is quite different from the rest of latrines ever done before in the orphanage.we are very delighted in this new developments that is going on in the Orphanage as positive change that we have been waiting for long time.We thank you all for your support towards this.

About Health At Amazing Grace

Good nutrition is the foundation of good health, normal growth and development of child.It is important to look in more details the types of diseases that are common and disturbes our kids.The most common diseases that really affects our children and the staffs includes: ring worms, malaria, fever,whooping cough, cough, ulcer, respiratory diseases and diarrhoea diseases.With our present limited resources and current prices in the clinics and market, it is vital to have special clinics and well equipped first aid box for the kids which we don't have in the home at the moment.It is obvious that most of these diseases are preventable if successful programme is put in place.
We also face allot of difficulties in the Orphanage especially when we encounter serious emergencies during night time.We have to depend on the bicycles that we have in the home and this has been so hard to controll emergencies.We thank you for the great support that you are giving out to ensure that the health of the children to be good.Jesus love us and understands all of our needs and desires.He gave us that assurance in proverb3:6.

spiritual food

We thank God for the provision of food,shelter and education for us at Amazing Grace.The children have come to know Christ and to read the word of God.
The children have daily Devotions where they sing praising songs,reading the bible and make some prayers before they go to sleep.
This Devotions have really strengthened their faith in Christ and they are thirst for the word of God and to know Christ Jesus more and more.Some of the children know how to read the Bible and others do not know they rely on the others for local language translations so that they can understand well.
We are looking forward to get Bible stories and simplified children bibles for the small children so that they can understand more easily.
One can give hope for tomorrow to another person but trough helping a child to know Christ, one will be giving an everlasting hope in the life of that child.
You can share with the life of children at Amazing Grace by prayers and also donating some Bibles and related materials for them to use and learn the word of God.

Meet Moi George

Moi George is a thirteen-year-old Orphan in Amazing Grace Orphanage and in primary five. He loves playing with the rest of the children in the Orphanage especially football but he has his passion on arts.
Moi loves drawing and he loves doing fine arts whenever he gets his free time. He is also teaching some of his talents to the other interested children who want to know how to draw.
His passion of drawing came about just when he was little child where he used to draw on pieces of papers and also on the ground.
he really hopes to do well in school and join university one day to perfect his talent of drawing and also be a famous drawing artist.

firewood for cooking

In the orphanage we entirely depend on the firewood for cooking and for fire. We collect firewood from the forest about 20 kilometers from the home which is used for our basic food cooking.The firewood is our only source of fuel to the Orphanage.Without the firewood we basically cant get food for our children.
We usually collect about one trip in each month from the forest.This requires transportation and also some expenses of collecting the firewood.The children in the home and also the staff use axe which makes it hard to split big logs of firewood like you see in the picture to be used for firewood.We are anticipating to look for a power saw that can make work easier by cutting the logs into small pieces and also get alot of firewood in the Orphanage and which can last for along time while using them.
We also have a constrain in storing firewood since when it rains the wood become wet and makes it hard to light and make it difficult in using them.We are also looking forward to get a place of storing the firewood and keep the dry.

A helping hand

During the weekends the children in the Orphanage hand out their helping hands to assist various home chores in the Orphanage.various jobs are distributed to the children according to their ability and capabilities.

The home has a piece of land that it helps in the production of green vegetables and other farm produce such as the egg plants, Beans,Okra,Spinach and tomatoes.The orphanage depend entirely on the farm to carter for food supplements which is very important to the children.

The children love helping out and they like doing it so much especially during the weekends and holidays and a time when they just have free time in their disposal.

The work they are doing is so good that they can not miss some vegetables in their diet since they work very hard for it and this has helped them getting some balance diet in their meals.

Antony,Tom and Steve visits

We thank God for the visitors who visited us in the Orphanage.Steve Alvez who works for National Geographic as a photojournalist, Tom Reeder from the Episcopal Church and Antony Gonzalez who is volunteering and a helping in St.Batholomew's home in Kajo Keji, in Southern Sudan.

Tom and Steve have previously visited the Orphanage and were very amazed with the growth of the children and the progress of the Orphanage.The children were very happy and felt appreciated by having visitors in the home.

We love sports

In most of the African nations, people adore and love soccer or football very much as their favorite sport. From balls made out of plastic papers, "kaliavongo" as they term it in kuku a local language in Sudan, to real balls children play it every where.This is not different either in Amazing Grace Orphanage where the children love soccer and play it very much.

For Morris Taban, a 15 -year-old boy in the Orphanage and a Class five pupil in Biyaya Primary School loves football. " I love playing football whenever i get a chance in my free time when i am not helping in the home especially during week-ends and Holidays."

Morris is a goalkeeper in the school team and when they last played the inter-classes tournament,their class won and got the first position. He likes Mathematics in School. He adds on saying that, he calculates at what particular time or when to give a pass to his colleague and to intercept and guards the goal to avoid the opponents from scoring goals.

For most of these children they do not have shoes,uniforms and necessary materials to safeguard themselves while playing soccer. And now two years on, when Morris started playing soccer is eying the prospects of becoming a professional player int the near future.This is what he is dreaming of if given moral support.

"It used to be normal and boring days in the weekends and holidays,but now that has changed especially when we got two balls from a donor in America.We thanks him and God bless him for changing our way of life"

Apart from soccer, Morris loves Volley Ball too but there are no Volley ball facility in the Orphanage. This is also evident with Konga Robina a 15-years-old girl in the Orphanage who loves Volleyball and admires table Tennis too. She admits that," i would love to play the two sports if we have it in the Orphanage although, i enjoy soccer most".

Hope installed through education

Education is very essential to any child. It is said that "education is the key to the future of a person" The cfhidren in the orphange are studying very hard and doing alot of revisions in preparation of their upcoming end-year exams.

There are five children who will undertake the Primary Leaving examinations (P.L.E) which will run for two days on 2nd and 3rd of November 2009 Nation wide.

Poni Evaline, Guo Betty, Mumo Bosco, Juan Joyce and Kabang Annnet are going to take the exams. They have come through thick and thin from their touching background stories where-by they did not have hope in life and never thought of being in a class learning in onepoint of their entire lives.With no study rooms to do their studies and revisions, they kept on believing in the audacity of hope which they have come to realize their dreams and now pursuing it.

Through you prayers and generous donations, you have impacted the children and now they have a chance to learn and school.There are Eight children who are learning in High school, Metu Secondary School and they are doing great in their studies too.Through your supportive love, they have aquire bright rays of hope in their lives.

The children in theOrphanage have got education through the help of Lahash International and you too can make a difference in changing comletely the life of achild in the orphanage.

good havest from the farm

The farm has really helped in the supplement of vegetables and this has helped in the balanced food for the children in the home.

The home has planted various plants in the farm such as Egg plant,tomatoes,Okra and spinach.The produce is so much that it carters for food for the whole week.Balance diet has been one of the main concerns in the home but God is providing food from the farm.The farm has been a blessing to the children who can now enjoy a variety of foods in their meals.
